2025 SJPA Spring Teams Tournament & Social

Registration is now closed.
Our second annual Spring Teams Pickleball Tournament and Social will be held this year on May 2 & 3.
This is a 2-part event:
● Friday, May 2, 5-7 pm – Social Meet & Greet/Dinner at Waterway Park
● Saturday, May 3, 8:30 – 4:30 – Pickleball tournament Rymer courts
We expect this will be one of the most popular events of the year and will fill quickly.
Ideally, the tournament will have Intermediate (2.0 – 3.5) and Advanced (3.5 – 4.0+) divisions. Players will sign up individually and then be assigned to teams based on rating to achieve team parity. The goal is to have 5 teams in each division, with 16 players per team, playing in a Round Robin format. Each player would, based on availability, play in two matches (3 games per match).
For each tournament match, teams will field a men’s, women’s, and 2 courts of mixed doubles. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st place team in each division.
For players who have been members for several years, members new to St James, and members new to Pickleball or the SJPA, this is a great opportunity to participate in a very fun, social event and to meet many other pickleball players you might not normally play with. For these Teams events, we stress the words FUN and SOCIAL!
In addition to the tournament, your $25 Tournament Entry Fee includes a Social Meet & Greet the evening before the tournament (May 2) at Waterway Park from 5:00-7:00 PM. This includes a casual buffet dinner (BYOB; Water and iced tea will be provided), music, and a chance to meet your Team captain and teammates. You may bring a guest (does not have to be a SJPA member) for an additional $15 Guest Fee.
The deadline to sign up is April 24.
Team selection will take place over the following several days. Rosters will be distributed to the captains by April 28th.
Sign up and be part of this fun pickleball event. The tournament will conclude prior to the Kentucky Derby.
Also, please consider volunteering to be a team captain or event volunteer.
Your responsibilities as captain are to:
● Meet your teammates at the Friday evening Social
● Contact your team members and determine their availability for play
● Schedule your players for each of the matches
Your responsibilities as an event volunteer:
● Check teams in
● Record scores
● Generally help to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Contact Bill Kamszik (bkamszik@gmail.com or 919-624-3400) for questions, volunteer to be a captain, or work the event.
