September Letter from the President

From the President…..

Fall is here and with it, thankfully, cooler weather to play!  I’d like to give a great big shout out to Harry Howard for initiating the purchasing and installing of our amazing sunshades. The SJPA funded this endeavor to alleviate the highly intensive sun and heat this summer. Thanks also to a group of anonymous players who funded the last grouping of shade sails. Hopefully, by the end of 2022 we will have some type of permanent shade structure erected at Rymer.

The SJPA has held and is continuing to hold group play at all levels.  The months of September and October will be full of opportunities to take part in team league play, socials, and a weekend pickleball camp taught by three great pickleball instructors, one of whom is our own Kim Mihan.  Please continue to check our website often as play opportunities pop us frequently.  We would like to encourage our 2.5 players to sign up for these opportunities so that they can meet others and develop play in both a social and beginning competitive atmosphere.

We are hopeful that we will have final completion of the restroom facilities during the month of October.  Electricity, which will give us lighting and locked gate access should be completed by November.  Water and an ice machine will be coming as well.

Reminders:

– The benches – please give a big thanks to Bob Melanga for resurfacing the four weathered and dirty benches at the Rymer courts.  He spent lots of hours sanding and cleaning them.  They look great!  Let’s keep the benches for sitting!  Hang bags on hooks and water bottles on floor.  Folks need places to sit and when they are covered with bags, players have nowhere to rest.  The water bottles that sweat are leaving marks and wet spots on the benches.

-If you reserve a court and find you will not be able to play, please remember to cancel your court reservation online.  This can now be done right up to playing time.  This way, other players may be able to utilize the court and it won’t stand empty.

-Trash- Please remember to pick up after you play.  Lots of water bottles and other debris have been left on the courts for others to pick up. We have a beautiful facility, let’s keep it looking that way.

-Ratings – Please give serious thought to getting rated by Kim.  Having a rating will enable you to play in rated SJPA events and tournaments.  The purpose of the rating system is to encourage competitive play amongst folks who are at similar levels.  This way games are more fun for all players.  Most of the SJPA socials are unrated which allow folks of all levels to come together for fun, social play.

If you would like to host a group of players, and list it on the SJPA website, please contact Joe Beitz and he will walk you through the process.

As always, we welcome any comments, suggestions, or ideas.  Please contact any board member.
