As many of you know, I was recently hospitalized and required surgery. I am well on the way to recovery. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank this awesome pickleball community for the outpouring of concern for me. Thank you all for the well wishes, meals, cards and flowers. It is greatly appreciated. I always knew that the pickleball community was amazing, but you all are the absolute best.
Now onto pickleball news. We are at the six month mark of the Rymer courts opening. It is inspiring to see how many folks are utilizing the courts and making new friends. Soon we will have the bathrooms, lights and running water! We now have 8 benches, and a picnic table is on order. We have purchased a small canopy to provide shade until a more permanent shade structure can be installed.
Each month, thanks to Joe Beitz, we have held events ranging from open and rated socials to an awesome 7.5 tournament that was held this weekend. During the month of May, we are hosting a fundraiser open social on two dates (5/15 and 5/23) to benefit the American Cancer Society (Relay for Life). Please keep checking the website as events will continue to be posted. If you have any suggestions, comments, concerns, please feel free to call or email me.
I’d like to dispel a rumor I’ve been hearing concerning ratings. If you were rated by Greg Rymer, those ratings stand. You do NOT need to be re-rated. The ratings that the SJPA will accept for all rated events are those competed by either Greg or Kim.
For those of you who are new to St. James Pickleball, you should have received a call from Cindy Hettinger welcoming you to SJPA. Thank you, Cindy for taking this on. We have also initiated a beginner round robin for those of you who are new and would like to experience round robin play.
Thanks to Sharen Hausmann and Mary Heatherly for continuing to spearhead our exciting apparel choices. They have added towels with logos and personalization to our line. Look forward to more exciting choices.
We now have a membership approaching 370 people. That’s a lot of pickleballers. We are looking forward to continued growth. Please consider supporting the SJPA!
Sincerely,
Andrea Velez
